Fast bowlers' fitness a worry for South Africa

COLOMBO: South Africa goes into the opening one-day international against host Sri Lanka on Saturday uncertain over the fitness of its crucial fast bowlers.Morne Morkel (quad) and Lonwabo Tsotsobe (ankle) are injured and their participation will be subject to fitness, captain AB de Villiers said on Friday. However de Villiers backed his inexperienced fast bowlers Rory Kleinveldt and Chris Morris, who have 12 one-dayers between them, calling them potential match winners. The South Africans may also pick two specialist spinners to take advantage of the pitch known to assist spin bowling at R Premadasa Stadium, de Villiers said. Dinesh Chandimal, who has been named Sri Lanka's youngest captain despite poor form, says he is good enough to come out of his lean patch. "There's nothing much to lose for me at the moment. I can only come up and there are moments where you go through tough paces," Chandimal said. "What I believe is that if I am a good player I should be able to come out of any situation." Chandimal takes the place of regular captain Angelo Mathews, who has been suspended for the first two matches for maintaining a slow over rate in the final match of a tri-series against India in the Caribbean.Squads:Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka: Dinesh Chandimal (captain), Lahiru Thirimanne, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Upul Tharanga, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Angelo Perera, Jehan Mubarak, Rangana Herath, Sachithra Senanayake, Ajantha Mendis, Lasith Malinga, Shaminda Eranga, Thisara Perera, Suranga Lakmal.South Africa: AB de Villiers (captain), Hashim Amla, Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock, Jean-Paul Duminy, Faf du Plessis, Colin Ingram, Rory Kleinveldt, Ryan McLaren, David Miller, Morne Morkel, Chris Morris, Alviro Petersen, Robin Peterson, Aaron Phangiso, Lonwabo Tsotsobe.
