El Salvador says nearly 30,000 infected with mosquito-borne chikungunya

By Nelson Renteria SAN SALVADOR (Reuters) - El Salvador has detected nearly 30,000 cases of the painful mosquito-borne viral disease chikungunya, and has undertaken measures to prevent the disease-carrying mosquitoes breeding, the head of the country's emergency services said on Wednesday. Since June, when the first case was reported, there have been 29,704 people infected by the virus, with 204 of them hospitalized, Jorge Melendez told Reuters. ...
