Chemical spill at Washington state port forces evacuations

A chemical spill at the Port of Olympia in Washington state has prompted the evacuations of employees and nearby businesses while the toxicity can be assessed, the Olympia Fire Department said on Wednesday. The hydrogen peroxide leak originated at a pipe leading to a large tank and it was unclear how much of the chemical had escaped, a fire department spokesman said. The Washington State Department of Ecology was on site to determine the severity of the spill and any potential impact to the area.
