Lab-coated Muggles use Harry Potter to study brain

Scott Kurdilla, a medical research technologist at Carnegie Mellon University, waits for a volunteer for a brain scan experiment on campus in Pittsburgh on Wednesday Nov. 26, 2014. The brain-scanning MRI machine at the center was used in a recent experiment where each word of a chapter of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" was flashed for half a second onto a screen inside a brain-scanning MRI machine. Images showing combinations of data and graphics were collected.
